I must say, the past month or so has been quite the spell of boomerang weather. A few weeks ago it was below zero, and today it's nearly 80 degrees!
CatMan and I went for a nice long bike ride yesterday, and I'm sitting here in shorts and a tank top reveling in having warm toes... FINALLY!
I don't know about you, but after a while, I find the cold to be exhausting... it's just sooo wonderful not to have to guard against it all the time - my body finally feels like it can relax!
So... this is a quickie post because I don't want to waste the weather! I'm sure it won't last so I'm gonna ride old Gerty over to the grocery store and pick up a few things...
...including some more food for my little squirrel friends. I know I'm a sucker, but I can't help it... they're just so darned cute!
So how about you? Has winter finally loosened its grip in your neck of the woods?
No, but summer has loosened its grip. No more
ReplyDeleteendless 40+ days - It's getting cooler!!!
Oy! Well, I suppose it's all relative. I do have to say that if it's 80 degrees in mid-March (26C) I'm sorta shuddering to think what it will be like in July or August!
DeleteI detest the heat so you can imagine how
Deletehappy I am!
I'm happy for you too! Too bad we all can't have moderate temperatures year round!
DeleteIt has mostly been above freezing but not close to 80 yet. I know that it will be here soon, but 80 is still hard for me to imagine. Glad you are getting a chance to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're finally out of the deep freeze! It's been an abrupt change - there are still piles of snow in the shady areas... gotta love that Colorado weather!
DeleteYou have leapfrogged us in terms of temperatures! We are down to about 10C, but with possible 15C later in the week. It has been sunnier, though, so I have been able to get some outdoor jobs done. Really need to tidy the garden up!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the outdoor jobs... I sorta forget that the outdoors exists when I'm cooped up inside. I'm hoping to get some planting done over the next few weeks - spinach & peas mostly. We'll have another day of hot weather then down to more like what you've got for a few weeks - and then they're saying to expect more snow in April.
DeleteI'm starting to think that "normal" temperatures are a misnomer for us, because we tend to be either 15 degrees below "normal" or 15 degrees above. I mean, it all averages out the same, but there's nothing "normal" about it! Perhaps "mean temperature" would be a better term!
Oh! I can't wait until I can say the same. We've finally hit the I'd 50s but now its going back down to the 40s for highs and 20-30s at night for lows. The birds have returned dies that count? The birdfeeder is emptying fast, and I was worried they wouldn't find it. 😊
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your lovely weather, me I'm worn out from being cold. Yes, it is tiring to me too to be cold for months on end.
Well... I suppose that's better than below zero with tons of snow! I think our warm weather is supposed to travel eastward, so hopefully you'll get some - though Denver seems to have much more in the way of ups and downs than most places.
DeleteStay strong... spring is almost here!
Yes. We don't have bad winters, but I get the same relaxation feeling when I can unclench my shivering muscles!
ReplyDeleteI envy your winter temps, though I think I might feel as if I were suffocating if I had to be there in the summer. We're supposed to dip back down into the 50's & 60's after today, but hopefully this little jolt will be enough to see me through until the warm weather gets here for real!
DeleteYes, the way people up north feel in March is just about how I feel in September, for opposite reasons. I don't suddenly relax though--it's more like suddenly I can move.
DeleteHa! We've been having some crazy hot summers recently (two days of 105 in a row a few years back). I can't even imagine what yours must be like what with the humidity and all...
DeleteOur humidity's not too bad; generally around 50%. (I worked at a summer camp near Houston where the humidity was generally around 95%. So that's why I think 50% isn't bad, unlike people who live in deserts.)
DeleteOy! Still, from my perspective 50% seems pretty darned soggy!
DeleteWe've been having that crazy kind of weather here, too. Freezing one day, in the 60s the next. This is the first time in my life I've lived in a "cold" climate and, after 12 years, I'm finally adjusting - for years, cold weather hurt me, physically hurt. And now that we've been farming full time, I've come to appreciate the quiet days of winter. :)
ReplyDeleteI was born in the tropics, and I have a crazy theory that my internal thermostat was set at birth to think that 80 degrees is "normal."
DeleteAnyhow, I've never thought of winter as a time of rest since it generally means lots of shoveling, and general difficulty getting things done, but perhaps I should attempt to cultivate that viewpoint!
Surely it was only about a week ago that your first sign of spring was slightly wetter snow?! I really cannot imagine going from that to 26C in such a short time. That's high summer temperature! OK, I may be a tiny bit jealous of your lovely warm weather right now, but on the whole, I think I prefer our gradual changes, even though it does mean that it's still effectively winter here (there may be a frost tonight).
ReplyDeleteWell, Denver is notorious for crazy temperature swings. I think it's because we sit at the base of the mountains, so when the wind blows from the west it creates a downslope which warms the air, but as soon as the low pressure system passes us, we get upsloping winds which cool the air.
DeleteEven so, this year has been totally crazy! Yesterday was 81 (27C) which was a new record, and the earliest we've ever seen temps that hot. CatMan and I went for a bike ride - it was really weird riding along in shorts with piles of snow everywhere!
It's cooled off today to around 60 (15C) but it's still warmer than "normal" (whatever normal is!) Apparently the jet stream is moving about more than usual (thank you, global warming) and that's part of what's causing these wild swings. I hope my plants survive it all!
I live on the East Coast of Canada. Winter has served notice that it is never, ever, ever leaving. Storm after storm after storm after storm . . . . including today.
ReplyDeleteYou have my deepest sympathies....
DeleteThings are warming up here, and not in a good way. While we've been opening windows in the house, I actually turned on the AC in the car yesterday.
ReplyDeleteSummer is coming.
