A Christmas Wish for a Simple Holiday

Well folks, I couldn't convince CatMan to watch White Christmas with me. It's probably for the best since he's not a big fan of musicals and would have spent the entire time rolling his eyes and biting his tongue, which would have made it significantly less fun for me.

So I Jasper, Smoky and I had our annual viewing last night, and, of course, I had to cry my way through the banquet scene. "We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go..."

Seriously, it's the look on the general's face that gets me every time.

Anyhow, I thought I'd share with you my very favorite scene from that movie.

This version is "enhanced" with some silly animations, but it's better than the one that makes you sit through a loud ad before playing it.

Anyhow, perhaps this is corny, but I really love this song, and the sentiment behind it. In this crazy world of ours where self-righteous indignation seems to have become our national pastime, and people seem soooo focused on who's getting what, and it's not fair, and ain't it awful, yadda, yadda, yadda... well, I just think it's important to remember how blessed our lives truly are.

So Merry Christmas everybody. May your holidays be filled with gratitude and blessings. And just so you know, I count my blogging buddies among my many, many blessings.

  1. I've not watched the video as it is early here and probably best not to wake everyone up on Christmas Eve....but I agree that we should appreciate what we have and not be so focused on what we perceive everyone else to have!

Warmth, tasty food and kitties...what more could you want?! (OK, maybe some snow here would be nice!)

Anyway, Merry Christmas to you, Catman, Jasper and Smoky :)

    1. Thanks so much. Merry Christmas to you and yours too! I'd gladly send you some of our snow if I thought it would survive in the post! :-)

p.s. my advice is to skip the video and watch the whole movie on Netflix... of course I am biased, I'm already wanting to see it again!

    2. I look forward to a soggy snow parcel ;)

I have never seen White Christmas...there are lots of classic films that I have never seen!

My Christmas tradition is to read The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett...though this year I have only read about 1/3 of it and there are only 6 hours til Christmas Day!

    3. Now that's one I've never heard of. Is it a Christmas story?

    4. Yes- in a weird fantasy Discworld Terry Pratchett way!

  2. My copy of "White Christmas" is right beside me, among my favourite Christmas films waiting to be played. Less than four hours to go to Christmas Day here now: a happy Christmas to you!

    1. Hope you enjoyed watching them all. I had to cry myself through It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol... I thought about watching Miracle on 34th St. but honestly didn't think I could take any more sentimentality!

  5. I believe Smoky and Jasper were probably better companions to watch the movie with. :-) Seriously, I'm really glad you are able to enjoy this holiday, it's been a while since you did.

Those are some strange animations in that clip.

    2. I know what you mean about those animations! What was up with the pictures of Bob Hope?

Anyhow, Jasper & Smoky enjoyed snuggling with me while watching it, and several other sentimental favorites. But CatMan couldn't escape entirely because I've been pummeling him with the music each day. "Sisters, Sisters... there were never such devoted sisters..."

Anyhow, we're probably just gonna stay home on New Year's - it is SOOOOO cold here! Seriously, they're saying that we won't see temps above freezing until next year! So I'll have to watch my favorite sentimental New Year's movies... Casa Blanca and When Harry Met Sally. Hope you have a fantastic celebration with your family! :-)

  6. They were showing It's a Wonderful Life at the local cinema on Xmas Eve so I dragged son and his girl along - 3 soggy, sentimental people left the cinema that evening!!! Another 2 converts!!! Damn....that's one great film! Anyhoos....Happy New Year. xx

    1. Oh I know... especially that last scene. When the telegram comes in from Sam Wainwright I always just lose it. "Mr. Gower cables you need cash. Stop...." and from that point on it's just descent into blubber.

Happy New Year to you too! :-)
