Seriously, it's been sooo warm and mild for weeks really... Well, we did have about 6 inches of snow last week, but it melted off in a day or two and the beauty returned quickly. I was actually chuckling yesterday because I was tripping over my boots and snow shovel as I was heading out to hang the laundry wearing my shorts and tank top. The flowers were blooming and things were just lovely...

Buds on the lilac bushes |
The first tulips blooming |
Not sure what these are, but they're sure pretty |
The garlic and green onions were up...

Green Onions - I even harvested a few |

But... it is springtime here in the Mile High City, and that means.... Be Ready for ANYTHING!
As the media is fond of reminding us, March is our snowiest month, but somehow I thought perhaps this was the year we'd skate through... but alas, mother nature wasn't quite done with us yet.
Anyhooo... it's a full on blizzard here.
This photo was a few hours ago, there's more snow now as it's coming down at the rate of several inches per hour. Hard to tell exactly how much is out there since the winds are whipping it into crazy drifts - I'd guess 8-10 inches so far. The airport is closed, the highways are closed, the schools are closed, and a good chunk of the city is without power. Oh my!
And it's that wet, heavy, spring snow that sticks to everything. Seriously, the screens are coated with so much snow that you can barely see out. The cats are a bit confused about where their view went...
... but hey, they'll just have to share...
Well... I guess the peas and spinach will get a nice shot of moisture to help them sprout... They do call them "snow peas" after all!
So I've cranked up the furnace, and I'm settling in for a cozy day of doing taxes - oh the joy! I just hope we don't lose power.
So how's the weather in your neck of the woods?
We are having a warm day today with temps in the 60's, however, Saturday we had snow. But not 10 inches. Spring is definitely a transition season. Hope you're back to bike riding soon.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least there's no shortage of exercise. I just got done shoveling about a foot and a half of HEAVY wet snow!
DeleteWe are having Spring here! I have been able to dry laundry on the line! (Very exciting!)
ReplyDeleteWe won't get snow, but the settled weather is about to change and we're going to have wind and rain over the next couple of days. Glad I took the opportunity to wash and dry everything!
It was so warm and dry a few days ago that my laundry dried in less than an hour on the line! What a difference a day makes! Anyhow, glad you're getting to enjoy some warmer weather, and hopefully the rain won't be too bad.
DeleteYou almost had me there. "What's with all the bare ground and green onions? I thought they had a snowstorm!" Enjoy it while it lasts!
ReplyDeleteYes, well there's another storm coming this weekend. Fun, fun, fun!
DeleteHoly Moly...talk about a change in weather!!! We have had a bit of a cold spell hit after being in the 70s for the last couple of weeks but no snow. (Kansas City tends to have up and down weather but not to that degree)
ReplyDelete45 mile bike ride...I am super impressed. I do a 5 mile power walk every day and I doubt that I would last 10 miles on a bike.
Can I tell you how much I love your cats. They are darling. I too, would become a cat lady given the right circumstances. My one little cat is ailing right now but I adore her.
Well, hold onto your hat, because I think this storm is heading your direction! I fear it will be a while before we get to do another long ride like that since more snow is coming this weekend. Sigh.
DeleteI'm so sorry you're in sick kitty land. It just totally sucks, doesn't it? I have to say that I'm pretty grateful not to have any sick fur-babies right now - I hate having to worry about being able to get out in case of emergencies when the weather's like this. Hope your little one is doin' ok. Hugs...
It's FINALLY cooling down. We've had the
ReplyDeleteweirdest summer with a lot of humidity. Looking
forward to being cold again!
Ha! I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you're in Australia? Well, somewhere in the southern hemisphere anyhow. I was just thinking today that I am SOOO tired of being cold. I'm really looking forward to being able to feel all of my fingers and toes again on a regular basis! Perhaps seasons are a good thing, or else we'd all be bored to tears!
DeleteYes, South Australian. We don't normally get
Deletehumid weather in the summer - it's all come
down from cyclones in the north. As I'm
sitting here, it's just started to rain
again! We don't get really cold winters -
I grew up in San Francisco and even the
winters there were colder.
Sorta jealous at the moment. We got a few more inches of snow last night. Sigh.
DeleteI was thinking about you when I saw the weather report yesterday. We dodged it when the system headed here, but it was an ice storm about 20-30 miles north of here and snow further north beyond that. Hopefully your power stayed on and you could do some cuddling with your cats.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris - it was all very uneventful for me, but I did enjoy watching all of the chaos on the news! What's that called... shodenfreud or something like that... anyhow, I was just glad I didn't have to go anywhere!
DeleteI was concerned for you when I heard the reports of power outages and closings in Denver. I'm glad to hear you still have your power but dang that's some heavy snow you had to shovel. I hope the lilacs and flowers survive when the snow melts. I think that might be a dogwood in your picture?
ReplyDeleteWe had a lovely day yesterday, I had a hard time going indoors, with temps hovering around 68, until the rain sent me running for cover. It poured all night and we woke up with a high of 40. The temperatures keep falling but at least we aren't supposed to get any snow.
I think mother nature was being a terrible tease with all of the nice weather for weeks, and now it just keeps snowing! Seriously, we got a few more inches last night and another storm is headed our way. Oh well... I emerged unscathed, but my parents little carport tent thing collapsed. I don't think there was any serious damage, but it sounded exciting!
DeleteYour crazy weather! As Nicola said, spring is behaving itself here for a while. That is, it was fine and sunny yesterday, raining today, and we're expecting a storm on Monday. Fine weather at this time of year is the best, because we can go outside early evening and not get eaten alive by midges.
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm not exactly sure what a "midge" is, but I'm sorta assuming it's like a mosquito. The only good thing about this little cold spell is that maybe it will kill off some of the bugs along the bike path. Seriously, I'm having to remind myself to ride with my mouth closed unless I want some... shall we say... extra protein!
