The day started with a clogged sink, proceeded with a disintegrated drain pipe, then it took a field trip to the hardware store where I was informed that my problem could not be solved without a plumber with a pipe & thread cutter... But I don't give up that easily. So with creative re-purposing of some plastic drain pipes, a hack saw, a few hose clamps, an old bicycle tube and a lot of creativity, the problem is solved.
But poor little Jasper didn't get his movie!
No movie??? |
So instead, I'm afraid you'll just have to enjoy the raw materials!

This is as far as I got in making the movie...
Sorry about your plumbing, I hope you get it sorted.
ReplyDeleteI loved Jasper's story, even though it was a shortened version. He looks like a sweetie, an adorable sweetie. I love looking at pictures of when they were kittens.
His favourite toy is also my lads favourite toy except I put a marble in it instead of the big ball.

Jasper is an adorable sweetie to be sure. I tried to get a video of his incredible purr, but alas, the sound didn't come through. Sigh.
DeleteI'm impressed by your plumbing ingenuity and love the pictures of Jasper. Actually, I prefer still photos to slideshow movies, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI only wish I'd had time to go through my zillions of pictures and pick out some more. Well.. I suppose I can always write another Jasper post some other time.
DeleteI always like to hear about your "can do" projects. One way or another, you get things done.
ReplyDeleteHow old is Jasper now? Love the pictures. The one with big brother, Sputty is my favorite.
I believe there's a fine line between "can do" and "stubborn" but at least I got it working!
DeleteJasper & Smoky appeared on my back deck in August of 2009, and we think they were 7-8 weeks old at the time. So that would make them nearly 6 years old! How is this possible???
That photo with Sputty is one of my favorites too, even though it makes me sad that he's no longer with us. Sigh.
My cat-loving 9-year-old will love this! Makes me just want to scratch his furry little head. :)
ReplyDeleteAren't plumbing problems the worst? Glad you figured it out!
Jasper says you can come over and scratch his head any time! :-)
DeleteMovie was cute, reminded me of how hubby played like that with our corgi. Jasper is a cute cat. Sorry about yor plumbing problems, not a good start to the day.

Well... it's always an adventure when you own a 60 year old house with "original fixtures." They always say that in real estate like it's some sort of selling point!
DeleteAnyhow, my video skills leave something to be desired, but I suppose that gives me something to work on!
Impressive plumbing skills and beautiful cat
ReplyDeleteWell... impressively stubborn anyhow. Mention the word "plumber" and I fly into action! :-)
DeleteAt least you have a fix that will get you through the weekend!
ReplyDeleteJasper is a cutie
I'm actually hopeful that it will hold much longer. The bike inner tube is really only being used as a gasket to prevent leaks, other than that I think my solution is pretty darned solid! :-)
DeleteJasper is adorable, he was a cute kittne and is now a handsome mancat :)
ReplyDeleteA "mancat" - those are words never applied to Jasper before. I still think of him as my "babycat!" Hard to believe he's nearly 6!
DeleteJasper Pea looks like a sweet pea. These are really cute pictures, especially with Big Brother Sputty, like a little storybook illustration. Congrats on your "can do" attitude regarding the plumbing problem! I bet that makes you feel good.
ReplyDeleteHe is the sweetest little pea ever. At some point I'll have to write another post with more complete Jasper stories, because they're worth telling!
DeleteHe's adorable! I love the video! All my cats go nuts for laser pointers too. That spinach picture made me laugh - one of my cats loves lettuce and he actually jumped on the table and stole a piece from my bowl when we had guests over! They were all shocked that of all the food on the table, he made a beeline for my salad! haha :)
ReplyDeleteJasper is a laser maniac. He's so tuned to the thing that he'll react just to the little click that it makes when you push the button. It's like he hears the click and suddenly he jumps to attention.
DeleteAnd that's totally hilarious about your cat stealing a piece of lettuce from the table. Jasper's other weakness in terms of food is butter. We call him "the butterball kitty" because if you leave butter out on the table he'll literally eat the entire stick!
Ugh plumbing problems. Plumbing is one of my weakest areas when it comes to DIY. I can unclog a drain and a few other simple things but that's about it. You were definitely creative, I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI loved the photo of Sputty and Jasper. Their difference in size is amazing. Jasper is so cute if I weren't allergic I would want one just like him.
That photo was taken when Jasper was still a kitten, he's much bigger now. But it is one of my very favorites.
DeleteAnd the plumbing issue, while it was a pain, is sort of a relief. The pipe sticking out of the wall had broken off years ago, so the drain pipe was connected using a rubber gasket. What happened this time was that the remaining part which the rubber gasket was to disintegrated when I took it apart to snake the clog.
BUT... I was able to figure out that the rotten pipe only extended a tiny bit into the wall and then connected with a solid pipe that wasn't rotten. Before this, I thought the entire pipe in the wall was falling apart and would need to be replaced, but it looks like that's not the case after all. Anyhow, it means I might be able to DIY remodel the bathroom instead of having to gut the entire thing to replace all the pipes in the wall. HOORAY!
oHHHHH how much I miss my own cat now :(
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry... but there are always kitties looking for a good home...
