A Week of Comebacks

Well, if you read my last post you probably realized that I was feeling a bit bummed - but the past week or so has been a remarkable collection of comebacks.

First there was Biden... Oh, how I love Joe Biden, especially when he uses words like "Malarkey!" I sort of doubt that the vice presidential debate will amount to more than a hill of beans when all is said and done, but it sure felt good to watch old Joe refusing to take any guff and tellin' it like it is!

The weather has taken a turn for the better. I planted some spring bulbs to replace the tulips and daffodils that died off last spring in the drought. And I took a most wonderful walk in the park on Monday with camera in hand. Here are a few gems from that little outing.

Along the way I met a charming little old lady. She must have been in her 80's and we had a grand chat. Turns out she lives in the neighborhood where I grew up (not terribly surprising since this park is near there) but I seriously must have walked right past her house every day as a kid on my way to school. Cue Walt Disney...

Anyhow, she was very involved in the political battle to keep that park designated as open space instead of opening it up to development, and she told me all about the process. She also spent a LOT of time telling me how important it was to vote for the upcoming ballot initiative to legalize marijuana because, of course, she uses it daily to treat her glaucoma - Go Granny Go!! She was a total riot!

And then there were my beloved Denver Broncos. Don't know how many football fans are out there, but let's just say that despite the fabulous Peyton Manning donning him some orange and blue, my boys have had a bit of trouble holding onto the football this year.

And after we fumbled twice in the first quarter, we finally had a fabulous play that was a sure touchdown until our receiver tripped over the 40 yard line. Seriously, the dude couldn't have been more open - and he made a great catch, and then just tripped over his own feet!

And to make matters worse, the next play Manning threw an interception (backup receiver was in the wrong place) and the Chargers ran it back for a touchdown! AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!

At this point it was clear that this was WAY more than simple bad luck... this was a CURSE!

BUT, just when all seemed lost, somehow my beloved Bronculators came back in the second half and scored 35 (yes, THIRTY FIVE) unanswered points to win the game in the biggest comeback in the history of Monday Night Football. GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

After the game, everyone kept asking what sort of amazing half time pep talk they had in the locker room - but folks, this was no pep talk, this was an exorcism!

Anyhow, it was pretty darned cool!

And then Obama did us proud in the town hall debate. No more Mr. Nice Guy! I don't know if it will make any difference, but it was sure nice to watch Romney take it on the chin a few times after that pack of lies that he got away with during the first debate.

And then today, the best comeback of all. CatMan has some chronic pain issues that have been acting up lately, so we haven't been able to do much. But today he felt better, and it was nice weather, so we went for a fabulously wonderful 45 mile bike ride. Yippee!!!

So there you have it... a few political blows landed, a great football game, some sunshine & fresh air, and one little old lady smokin' dope... and all is right with the world!

So how 'bout you. What fills you up & makes you happy?

  1. Firstly, YOU LIVE THERE??!! I forget that beauty like that exists outside of pictures, especially when I'm surrounded by dirt and cacti. And that last shot of the sun through the trees...pretty much my FAVORITE shot ever. I'm obsessed with the way sun rays come through trees and clouds. Nothing prettier :)

As for me, I'm the happiest person on Earth because I have kittens. Two 1.5 week old darling brothers who were dumped at Petco. I was lucky enough to get the shelter I work at to take them...as long as I foster them. No problemo! It's making this whole waiting to see if we're moving in less than a month thing seem irrelevant. It's impossible to feel anything but joy when you're snuggling a handful of kitten :)

    1. Isn't it a beautiful park? I feel SOOOOO lucky to live only 3 miles from such a beautiful place. I am so grateful to people like that little old lady for fighting to keep it open space.

Kittens!!!!!! Those sound like mighty young ones! Are their eyes even open yet? I've never had a kitten younger than 7 weeks. Are you having to bottle feed them every few hours? Please post some pictures!!!

    2. Their eyes STILL have not opened after almost 2 weeks! They had to be bottle fed every 2 hours the first week, now about every 3 hours. They'll need to be bottle fed until about 6 weeks. Here is a vlog I just did featuring their cutenesses (basically I made it into a vlog since you don't have Twitter/FB lol) http://un-stuffed.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-big-question.html

  2. I'm glad that this week was a turn around one for you! I'm just thankful it's Friday and I can sleep late tomorrow. That's my big happy thought! (I'm easy to please). But also, I have a sack of bulbs to plant this weekend, too. I'm already looking forward to spring!

  3. Beautiful pictures. I'm always happy when my children are doing well or when my kitties are playing. Both make me smile.

  4. Stridin' Biden makes me laugh in a happy way. I'd be glad to have him serve another go-round as VP.

    1. Stridin' Biden... I LOVE it! Here's hoping we get another 4 years, because honestly I'm not sure I could stand to look at Ryan's smirk on a regular basis!

    2. So agree with you, both on 4 more years, and not wanting to look at Ryan's smirk! Love your blog, it's nice to have a kindred spirit.

  5. This was a great week for you. I thought of you while I was watching that comeback by Peyton. Overall, it was upset week, and my wonderful Steelers started it Thursday night, what an awful game.

I would love to meet the woman you spoke with this week. What a character she sounds like.

As for Biden, I like him but didn't watch his debate. As for the presidential debate this week. I was sickened by Romney. He's so arrogant IMO, I enjoyed how Obama seemed to handle him with such ease.

And your photos are wonderful. We may live on opposite sides of the country, and you have the mountains I miss, but we both have beautiful seasons to enjoy.

    1. Well, I think your Steelers redeemed themselves last night! :)

The weather has been just lovely - I rode my bike over to drop off my ballot this morning. One more day of warmth and sunshine and then a big storm is expected with more snow. I think I'm ready for it this time though!

    2. They sure did, especially being we are on the third string in many positions.

I have been out and about as well. This week we are having highs in the low 70s so I can pretend summer isn't quite over yet :-)

  6. Yea! Glad you feel better.

When I need to be happier, singing or otherwise participating with music (dancing, singing along) helps. And re-reading really good books with characters I like. And hugs and cuddling. And of course various food treats.

We're getting some nice weather here, too, which is a little depressing on a work day but today it's great. Our autumn is quite subtle (what with the cactus and the dirt), but actually we have a lot of stuff blooming since we've been getting some rain. And the pecans and walnuts are ready for harvesting.

    1. Singing yes!!!! You know, I used to spend hours playing my guitar and singing just because it made me feel good. But then I became a "performer" and somehow it all got a "supposed to" connected to it. But since I don't perform anymore, I'm thinking I should try to do more music just for the fun of it.

Rain is good... hope you're enjoying it!

  7. I'm glad you're having a better week.
As a Canadian I try to keep non-involved with with the US election but I think a guy that can use the word malarkey in a sentence should be in charge of the world.

    1. Oh how I wish I could keep non-involved. Since Colorado is a "swing state" (meaning it's a close race here and our electoral votes could go either way) the airwaves have been literally plastered with ads, and they are just beyond nasty this year. This is the first election since the supreme court ruled that corporations can dump unlimited amounts of money into political ads, and it's really sickening.

I think the parts that get to me is that the ads are no longer about having different views on how to govern the country, it's all about lies and distortions and character assassination. I think that's why I liked the "malarkey" thing so much because someone finally said something that was true!

    1. Chocolate & cake... I've been having terrible sugar cravings. I think it's the changing seasons, my body says it's time to pack on a few pounds for the winter. I'm trying to tell it this would be a bad idea, but it still wants decadence.

Have you ever had a "tres leches" cake? It's a traditional Mexican dessert - angel food cake drenched in evaporated milk with whipped cream frosting and fruit on top. I can't stop craving it!

Anyhow, thanks for the blog award - I'll go read about it and see how I can bend the rules to my liking! :-)
